In Ukraine there are a few traditions for a Jesus Baptism Day. This day is celebrated in 19th of January and the night before the main tradition is to go bathing in some natural source of water.

So at this day usually the local rivers and lakes are full of the people wishing to commit this ritual, not minding the temperature of the air and of the water, which is usually just a half degree up the freezing point at this time of the year. Normally they make ice-hole in cross form for people to bath. People believe that the water in this day is able to treat all their ailments and sicknesses. By the way, our President, members of the Parliament and Government do this ritual every year and we watch this event on evening news.

Also, many people in Ukraine believe that the water being picked up at Baptism Day has some sort of magic. It can be kept next 365 days without getting any smell or become rotten.

So many collect the water at that night and keep it at home, drinking it from time to time during all the year.

I personally checked this, the water was kept in a room with temperature 20-25 degrees and never become bad, is always fresh. I dream to become brave one day and follow those people who bath in January water. Maybe the next year.

Ask me, what festival I like the most, and I will answer at once: “New Year”. I guess, if I asked you about your favorite celebration you would answer me the same way.
Yes, for most people the Christmas time is very special. We live in different countries and miles are between us, we celebrate our own important dates, but we all become closer expecting New Year. Why closer? Because this time of year we all live with similar feelings of a coming miracle.

What is that feeling? The first Christmas decoration in shop window in the beginning of October, the smell of the first frost in November and of course the first snowflake set on your hand.
I am happy to live in Ukraine, our winters are snowy and believe me, it is so nice to walk under the snow when big soft snowflakes sit on your clothes and face and all around is white, clean and tidy, and you get special high mood… It does not matter who you are: curious child, emotional woman or strong man – everyone is delighted with such a beauty! Even the most indifferent phlegmatic will notice: look, it seems nice around!

Every the next day approaches us to the celebration. We are waiting for Santa Claus, we are waiting for gifts and we are waiting for the completion of our sacramental dreams.

Our dreams are different like we are. Somebody dreams about a roof above one’s head and somebody wants to get a new Bentley, another eager to climb Everest. But all we connect our dreams with coming New Year and we all expect something great will happen with us in the next year.

I think that’s great we are able to believe in Santa and to dream. And I sincerely wish you all your dreams become a truth. Let us take up our vocals with Champagne for the coming New Year.

People in Ukraine normally wish each other strong health, prosperity at home, peace, the Gods blessing and Love. So I wish you all this, in Ukrainian way! This year the Christmas tree in Kiev is the highest in Europe-35 meters. 450 small trees are set between others decorations.

There are plenty small Bulls, the symbol of 2009 year, looks at you from the altitude of the New Year tree.

With you again. It’s a name of new circus program in Kiev National Circus.

Every year this circus presents spectators two new programs. And every one of them is real festival!

Today I am here with my English guest Xavier. We take comfortable places high up and plunge into an atmosphere of fairy circus art. The menage spreads before the eyes. Young beautiful girls open the show. Bright costumes and graceful figures dazzle spectators

The next performers fully contrast with them: we see weight-lifters, strong men with prominent biceps. They play with heavy metal balls like they are just toy balloons.

We clap bravery of air gymnasts, mastery of acrobats and flexibility of young gymnast.

But animals attract the most admiration. It is impossible to stay indifferent looking at cats and mice who take places next to each other at a rocket, where pilots are beautiful white pigeons.

We cry “bravo” to big brown bears dancing on balls, but their weight is more then 100 kilos!

Today we saw many animals showed us their skills: horses, camels, monkeys, dogs, porcupines, raccoons. Xavier was surprised: It seems all the zoo came here today!

Two clever clowns gifted spectator lots of humour, jokes and laughter during the show.

Three hours passed very quickly and we got three hours of positive emotions – admiration, laughter and adoration.

We leave circus with feelings of festival and thank all actors for their hard work and endless creativity. We are looking forward to new January circus program with skating bears.
